Democracy – A Concept Construct

Democracy traces its etymology to the Greek word dēmokratía, which translates in English as rule by the people. The key words in this definition are rule and people. At the center of the ruling process in a democratic state is the power of the people to decide how they are governed and who their leaders or representatives should be. A government constituted in this way runs to serve the people or would be voted out or recalled in due time. Nigeria operates what is called a representative democracy, the type of democracy in which a vast majority of people elect some members of their community (either local government, state, or country) to represent their collective interests.
