Lessons from Western Advanced Democracies

The value and benefits of democracy must be highlighted by drawing upon the experiences of western advanced democracies whose practice of democracy continues to yield great benefits for their people. This is evident in the areas of responsible and accountable government, the triumph of the rule of law, respect for human rights and dignity, stability, peace and security, innovation and economic opportunities, quality of life, and overall sustainable functioning of the society.

With the understanding that a picture is more powerful than a thousand words, we will endeavor to use visual and auditory aids on the working of democracy in western societies to stress the value and benefits of democracy to the Nigerian public, and to do so in a culturally relevant way. We must stress that democracy is not at odds with the Nigerian cultures.
